Transform your career opportunities with The CV FAIRY

Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to CV writing
• Your CV is your own personal ‘sales brochure’ and its sole purpose is to generate an
interview.
• It should be visually appealing, easy to read and contain enough information to
create a positive impression.
• Ensure that the statements regarding your achievements and experience are
positive, do not be too modest, and tell the employer how good you are.
• Use plenty of white space – white space draws the eye – do not cramp up the
information, keep your margins wide.
• Always give the employer your career in reverse order. Recent employment is usually
the most relevant. It allows the employer to see what you are now, not what you
were years ago.
• Make sure you use ‘action words’ rather than “I” e.g. Managed, Improved,
Generated, and Maintained.
• Do not rush your CV; it takes time and great thought to produce a document that
truly reflects your skills and abilities.
• Never state your salary or reasons for leaving. Do not include names of referees on
your CV.
